Lost Without God

Today we are looking at Genesis 39:1-6a as we look at life without God. It’s not that cool.

Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. The LORD was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. So he left in Joseph’s care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. ”

When I was a young child, I always went shopping with my mom. When we were in an unfamiliar area, I made sure that I stayed really close so that I didn’t get lost. Well, one day it happened. I got interested in something and wandered away. Mom was no where to be found. I frantically looked everywhere, but could not find her. Soon my mom found me and I was happy to see her. Without your parents, you may feel lost, but eventually they find you and your life returns to normal.

Joseph got into a similar situation. He was in an unfamiliar land and still managed to praise God. When he was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, he was lost from his family – but not from his heavenly Father.

In Genesis 39:2 it says, “The Lord was with Joseph and he prospered.” Joseph was faithful to God, and he was blessed in many ways. He had control of all of Potiphar’s belongings. With God’s help, Joseph became one of Potiphar’s top servants. Joseph pleased Potiphar and that please God.

Joseph, being away in a foreign land, is a little like being lost in a huge department store. We may get lost in a huge store or our parents may lose track of us, but only we can lose track of God; He never loses track of us.

Points To Ponder: Have you ever been lost without God?

Prayer Possibilities: Pray that your faith will prosper. Pray for help to help a friend’s faith prosper. Thank God for giving you faith.

  1. hey
yeah sometimes i’m lost without God if i don’t pray. Sometimes i lie in bed and fall asleep, and the next day or so i realize darn i didn’t pray, maybe that’s why things aren’t going good. Some days i’m really really tired and just don’t feel like it, but you know even 5 min. wouldn’t hurt. It’s just like that song the kids sing at Sunday School “Read Your Bible, Pray every day and you’ll grow, grow, grow.”
