The Lost Can Be Found
Hey, it’s been awhile since the last devotional and I appoligize for that. Things this summer have been just nuts crazy busy. Things are still really busy but I want to get back into the VulcanYouth.com devotional swing. So here goes.
We are looking at Luke 15:1-10 today for our text. Below I’ve quoted a few verses, but I highly recommend you click the link and read the whole passage.
“Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’”
Have you ever lost something at home, or at school that was very precious to you? When you realized that it was lost, you searched diligently for it because of the value it has for you. Then, after a long, thorough search, you finally find it and are glad to have it back.
This is the picture that Jesus used in the text about a parable of the lost sheep, and the lost coin. In the parable of the lost sheep, the shepherd left 99 sheep in search of that one lost sheep. Also, in the parable of the lost coin, the woman lost one out of ten coins she had and searched carefully until she found it.
But, what meaning does this have for me? What Jesus is saying is that He shows His merciful love to all people, but especially to those who felt the need of His mercy. The ones who need His mercy are like the sheep and the coin. In Luke 15:7 it says, “I tell you that in the same way there is more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.â€
All followers of Jesus are sinful, but they received forgiveness of their sins. The other lost people of this world can only be found if we help spread the Gospel and realize that we sin daily and need repentance.
Points To Ponder: What is lost to those who oppose Jesus? Where can the lost be found? Why would you want to find a lost one?
Prayer Possibilities: Ask God for help to use His Word and bring a lost one to faith. Pray for help to grow stronger in our faith. Thank God for finding us when we were lost.
